5:26, Soundgarden ‘Black Rain’
Outtake from the ‘Badmotorfinger’ sessions, would have fit right in with ‘Searching With My Good Eye Closed.’

,It’s hard not to take the lack of deep South dates on this tour personally.
Atlanta? Birmingham? That’s too much to ask?
This is why, just as soon as we get that there truck a runnin’, the South dun gonna rise agin!
Today’s Theme: 1996
I listened to ‘Down on the Upside’ seemingly everyday. I was in Atlanta in my first and second year of grad school in 1996. It was a pretty good year in many ways, but that fall I met J. and while we didn’t date until 1997, 96 is pretty special to me.
I was into Soundgarden just a wee bit, and my friend Pete and I drove to somewhere in Vermont to some old racetrack to see Lollapalooza with Soundgarden, the Ramones, Rancid, Screaming Trees, Rage, and Metallica. Worst crowd we experienced among the four Lollas Pete and I went to. Mainly the Metallica meatheads.
Tawmy from Quinzee was in full blackout-rampage mode. It felt like a rape was imminent.
Early in the day, somebody hit Lanegan with a shoe and the Trees bolted. Rage didn’t show, there were rumors Wu-Tang was coming (unfounded), and we left almost immediately into Metallica’s set. Weird day.
The Ramones, Rancid, and Soundgarden were in great form that day—as the guys in Rancid were wearing the Pinhead’s mask during the Ramones’ set, and Cornell remarked that the setting among the Green Mountains was among the prettiest places they’d ever played. I saw them again on the DotU tour that was their final date in Atlanta before they broke up, and Ben was clearly not happy to be in the band anymore. So glad they’re back together.
,Today’s themememe: Usual Suspects.
‘Slave and Bulldozers,’ Soundgarden.
I probably listen to the mighty Soundgarden more than any other band, and have since Pearl Jam’s ‘Yield’ album, as that seems to have been their last great recording.
,This new Soundgarden is fantastic. So glad they were able to bury the hatchet—looking at at your ginormous, but now deflated, ego Cornell—and get back to making heavy ass music.
Can’t wait for them to tour the US. Maybe Matt Cameron will do double duty and play with both Soundgarden and Pearl Jam on the same bill. Of course, his arms might fall off.
“Non-State Actor,” Soundgarden.
NOW COME TO ATLANTA!!!
Dave’s gotten mighty soft, but Soundgarden will be on tonight, so I’ll tune in.
At 8pm EST you can stream Soundgarden’s set.
The whole set, right here.
Giggity.

I mean really, I’m streaming the Bruins’ game and listening to the new Soundgarden. Life is good.
Why can’t I just have 1 or 2 beers? Why do I have to be an asshat?
