Speaking of Yankees…

Once I was dating a dude from St. Louis and we had lunch with my grandmother when she was still alive. She asked him if he would like to try some of her collard greens and he declined. She gasped and said, “ARE YOU A YANKEE?”

I’ve never heard “yankee” used to describe people from the Midwest.

To Southerners, anyone born outside the Confederacy is a Yankee.

To people from Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi, anyone born outside those four states is a Yankee. Hell, my wife and her family don’t even count South Carolina except maybe for Charleston as Southern.

And if someone’s Southern Grandmother passes you greens, YOU’D BEST EAT THEM.
